Confidentiality
Our relationship, as client and psychologist, is protected by District of Columbia law.  I will not disclose that you are my client or any information at all about you without your written permission, except in certain very specific situations:
  • In the event of a clear and imminent threat to your life or the life of another person, I may be compelled to breach confidentiality in order to insure safety.
  • In the event of suspected child abuse or neglect, I am legally required to report this to Child Protective Services.
  • If given substantial cause to believe that an adult is in need of protective services because of abuse, neglect or exploitation by someone other than my client, I am legally required to report this to the Department of Human Services.

These situations are extremely rare in my practice. If such a situation arose, I would make every effort to fully discuss the options with you before taking any action.
